Required Questions
1. The art criticism process begins by getting out a sheet of paper and titling your piece then placing the paper by the piece being criticized. You then walk around the class criticizing 8-10 projects, saying what you like about them and then giving suggestions and leaving questions.

2. I am critizing the teens inspired project i did. This project was weel put together, as i actually did use slit to put together the walls. This piece was supposed to look semi realistic but I could not tell you what went wrong. The piece means things are surface level but then go deeper, as its a face on the outside but on the inside it can contain anything, as it is a box. If i had to, for this piece I would suggest that i added more depth to the whole thing, especially the nose. I would have suggested maybe using more clay tools than just the exacto, the smoothing thing, and the needle tool. I feel as though it would have helped to expand my tool box. When I started sketching for this project I was really thinking I was more advanced then I actually was. The sketch was great (see my earlier blog post for it) but the execution was somehow off. When I first started off i intended not to make a box, just the front slab with a face. But then i was given the suggestion of turning it into a box and just rolled with it. The brainstorming for the project was easy as it was an inspired piece based of a painting i liked from a website. I first made the nose on this piece, i created little balls for the nostrils then continued adding on and adding a line for the bridge if the nose. I then worked on the eyes and watched a tutorial on how to make them and did it based on that. I then did the lips and eyebrows. I next added the walls all together and fired it. I then went ham on the painting and just brushed a bunch of colors over eachother again and again. I liked the idea of the piece and was quite happy with the product. I also really liked the paint job. At this time i have no questions ab the piece.
#9: Illustration fridays really did help me throughout the year. I realized the loner i worked on them the better the outcome. This is my illustration friday for the week of the word character. they also definitely helped me with my projects. I would draw something goofy for the illustration friday then i would try and base a project off it. Illustration friday helped me better develop drawing skills and also recognize that if i put in time and effort ill be happy w the results or my art.
#11. I choose the bronze Jim Valvano statue on NC State Campus. This statue is personal bc its my great uncle (lol u can see my mom and grandpa in the pic kinda funny). This piece reflects me as an artist bc i would really enjoy trying to make a sculpture out of bronze. I think itd be insanely cool and especially to do a facr out of bronze. In my inspjred artists piece you can see my attempt at a face and id like to imagine one day i could be good enough to do a face out of bronze. The subject matter reflects me as an artist because its my family and family is very important, mostly because we are italian and you know how that goes.
# 3 I dont believe copying is always plagarism, as long as theres a little spin on it. If someone copied a piece directly not even trying to make it their own then yes i think it would be plagarism. If someone were to copy someones art and add a spin such as making it a watercolor piece instead of the original or changing the mediums then it would be fine. Or if the style was change from like photo realism to abstract i think that would be fine, especially if it was a well known art piece vecause people love to see new styles of pieces they love.

Paper Rolls Abstract
Me and Angelina did this project together
pros: me and angelina got to work together
cons: It took SOOOO long. Four feet seems not that much but it is so much better than it actually is.
process: we first spent like two days rolling paper rolls-which payed off we had exactly enough, only one extra. We then started by building one triangle going by rows. Then we built the other triangles. We adhered all of this by tape, we started off by hot glue but that took way too long and also fell apart.

Pouring Vessel
materials: clay and glaze
pros: I did really well in the wheel this time. I also really liked how i could make it whatever i wanted.
cons: it blew up in the kiln :(
process: I put clay on the wheel and spun it for the vessel itself. When that was fired for the first time i then glazed it. Next i made the three cups to go along with it by making them with clay slabs and then painting them. The clay vessel itself still has not been fired yet so i dont have a picture of it.

Surrealist
pros: I liked wrapping angelina's arm up in duct tape. I also liked painting it.
Cons: the arm did not look as how i thought it would.
Process: I first wrapped angelina's arm in cling wrap then duct taped over it. We then freed her arm from the duct tape and taped it back together. Then i brought it home and spray painted the arm. I spray painted it with multiple colors to make it kind of galaxy like.
Materials: Duct-tape, cling wrap, spray paint.

Wearable Sculpture
materials uses: cardboard, cotton balls, foam, glitter, googly eyes, random decorations, and spray paint
meaning: how recycled materials can make a cheap, comfortable shoe for people. Also, walking on literal trash and how that affects the earth.
Pros: I really liked making this and making it like represent me. It was quite easy to make and the shoe is actually really comfortable, you can ask mrs. Battles.
Cons: I had to individually glue all the decorations on which kind of sucked a little bit
Process:I first cut out four identical pieces of cardboard for each foot in the shape and size of my foot. I then cut the strap for the shoes. I then "paper-mache" the yarn onto the straps for the shoes. I then spray painted the straps and cardboard foot prints.I then attached the foam to the bottom for support. Lastly I glued on the cotton balls and the decorations on top of the cotton balls.

Inspired Artist
Artist: Bian Xiaodong
Location: China
Material they work with: Kaolin Clay
History: has experimented with fine porcelain for years. Experimented to find his unique way to morph the shape consciously in a high-temp kiln.
Interesting Fact: The inspiration comes form an incident where Bian fired the ceramic at a temp, that is too high and caused ceramic to deform.
Their Site: He does not have one
What makes their work inspiring to me: His pieces "defy" gravity and look amazing. I really like the colors used in his pieces and the form the pieces take is quite amazing. It reminds me of a venus fly trap almost. I really like how he shapes some of them to look crumpled.

Repetition Project
Pros: Looks super cool, I really like used all these metals and i really really REALLY liked using the staple gun
Cons: Bending the wire was really tough to get it into a good shape and it made my hands really dirty and smell like metal.
Process: I first started with wire and pliers, i was just going to make like a practice repetition project. I then just went on and kept adding more wire and realized i should just keep it as the project. So i made the wire part, the main part, by looping wires together a bunch of times. I then needed a base, so i used wood which we cut, and then i painted it pink. I then needed to attach the wire to the wood, i tried nails but the nails would not go into the wood, so i then moved on and used a stapling gun. I used the staple gun and then i realized i should add more pieces to the wood base, so i added like door hinges and bolts and such.

Inlay Project
pros: i really like carving things its satisfying enough. i also really like scraping the excess off.
cons: clay becomes brittle and easy to break
Process: i started with a slab of clay cut to the size i wanted. I then waited a few days for it to dry. When it was dry, I sprayed it a few times with a spray bottle so it wasnt too dry and wouldnt fall apart. I then printed off the design i wanted and trace it with a pencil onto the clay. I then carved out the lines and filled it in with inlay. I waited another day for the paint to dry and then i scarped it all off. When i finished scraping all the extra paint off the piece was fired for the first time. Then when it was out of the kiln i glazed it using regular glaze and then put it in the kiln for one last time.
Its also in the kiln rn

Object to Art
1. I started making this by applying tape all over the front of the shoe. I then started making the paste of glue and water to use for the paper-mache. I then started on the process for paper mache and used paper towels. To create mountains i rolled up paper towels to create height and i then layered smooth pieces of towel over it. I then waited it for it to dry and then i painted it.
2. I picked the object because i love shoes and i have too many pairs. I was inspired by my spring break trip to the mountains. That and mountains are quite easy to paint.

Teens Inspired Project
1. I was inspired by the simplicity of the piece and how there were not a lot of colors.
2. Aliamanu by Susan Moore Medium: Lithography
3. The process first started out when I found the piece i was inspired by and I then figured out how i wanted to reinterpret it through clay, so I started with my sketch. I then started rolling clay into slabs, i rolled four slabs to create a box. I then started sculpting the eyes and the mouth and the nose. I then smoothed it all over and fired it for the first time. I then painted it with glaze and fired it again.

Weekly Update #3
this week i finished my teens inspired project and also started using the “vicky” mold
Weekly Update #2
This week i continued to work on my teens inspired project as well as sketch some ideas for the other projects and what i would like ti sculpt next.
Weekly Update #1
For this week of class I am working on the Teens inspired project. So far i have almost completed sculpting one side of the box and it has turned out to be pretty good.
